I started this project for my friend, Shari’s, birthday in 2008. We saw a few of these at the SewWhat? event in Cambridge, MA and she loved them. I decided it would be a great DIY birthday gift for her.

I started by doing a bit of internet research. I found exactly what I needed on WikiHow. I got the book for free at a book drop in Newton - I went through a ton of books to find the perfect on for Shari. I decided on an older Spanish text book in red and black because Shari studied Spanish in college. I used an old pillow case for the liner material, and purchased purse handles from ACMoore.

I love the end result, and was happy to make an item that was personalized for Shari.
